    GROUP SESSIONS ARE ARRANGED AS FOLLOWS:

  • Students participate in activities held during the year.
  • Public Performance lessons.
  • Students share private lesson time with others when working on duets, ensembles, or preparing for Suzuki Graduations.
  • REQUIRED ACTIVITIES—Yearly Events unless indicated.

  • All of the Events have registration costs.
  • If a student is unable to attend the group activity, a makeup is scheduled and remains on the list of “to do” until a group of three students is formed.
  • HASPA WORKSHOP (Houston Area Suzuki Piano Association)

    Registration on Saturday and Sunday

      Ribbon Festival—Fall Event

      Function involves Suzuki students from all over Houston to perform two compositions.

      Student performs in front of a judge to demonstrate piano-playing skills.

      Students receives a critique sheet and award.

      Practice-a-thon

      Student pledges to practice for the duration of the activity.

      Student receives monetary donations to benefit the funds for Suzuki organizations; a percentage of the money is allocated to help children or medical organizations.

      Master Classes--2 per year (1 each semester—Fall and Spring)

      Classes are designed to improve students technical piano playing and confidence.

      Class time is based on the Volume level of students.

      Students attend the entire hour session to observe others.

      Two Recitals per Year:  Fall and Spring

      Students’ Attire:  Formal Dress required at recitals.

      Some students are selected to participate in parts of the program to encourage the Public Administration aspects.

      Suzuki Graduations:  Fall and Spring.

      Held for students upon completion of the required Suzuki composition for each level.

      Students tape three compositions on the tape to be judged for review and graduation approval.

      Students perform selected composition and receive critique sheet and award of promotion and achievement.

      HMTA & TMTA Music Festivals (Houston Music Teachers Association)

      Recitals

      Performance judged.

      TMTA Theory Tests (Texas Music Teachers Association)

      State theory tests by school grade level.

      Score 90 and above to receive a medal

      Tests offered in October and January

      The Prince Institute Pretest Group Sessions

      Group pretests offered to get students prepared for actual tests.

      Makeup required at private lesson is missed the group scheduled date.

      TMTA Convention Ensemble Performances (Not Mandatory)

      Additional composition learned for yearly conventions.

      Requirements to attend:
      Auditions;
      Two-weeks of group rehearsals required in order to perform.

      HMTA Performance Contests (Not Mandatory)

      Performance a composition for competition.

      Student moves on to next level based on results.

      Summer Music Camp

      Offered to students all over the world.
